Caribbean (French West Indies) · France
St. Barthelemy
A barefoot French Caribbean haven where understated villas, turquoise coves, and a yacht-lined harbour replace ostentation with effortless privacy.
- Suggested stay
- from 4 · 7 ideal · up to 10 nights
- Best season
- December through April is the prime dry season, with steady trade winds, calm seas, and every restaurant and boutique open. December and January carry the strongest social calendar and the highest rates; mid-April offers similar weather with thinner crowds. Many of the best hotels close from late August or September through mid- to late October for the season change and to avoid peak hurricane risk.
St. Barthelemy is the most discreet address in the Caribbean, an eight-square-mile French outpost where the Gallic art of living meets white-sand coves and an aquamarine sea. There are no high-rises and no large jets. Light aircraft drop onto the short runway at Gustaf III, and the harbour at Gustavia fills each winter with the world’s most serious yachts. The mood is barefoot luxury rather than spectacle.
The island rewards those who value restraint. Days drift between quiet beaches such as Colombier, Saline, and Gouverneur, long lunches at beach clubs, and afternoons aboard a chartered yacht to the surrounding islets. Gustavia itself is small and walkable, its quays lined with the same maisons one finds on the Avenue Montaigne, sold duty-free in a red-roofed Swedish colonial town.
Accommodation is intimate by design. The finest properties are boutique in scale, built around private pools, sea views, and a level of personal service that the regular winter clientele has come to expect. Many guests return to the same villa each season, and the island’s calendar of arrivals and departures runs on familiar rhythms.
St. Barth is a winter destination above all. From December through April the trade winds are steady, the restaurants and boutiques are fully open, and the social tempo across Gustavia and the beach clubs is at its height.
Ideal for
Couples seeking barefoot privacy · Yacht owners and charter guests · Families taking a whole villa · Repeat winter-season regulars · Discreet UHNW travellers who prefer understatement over spectacle

Arrival & departure
Coming & Going
Airports
The island's only airport. Its short runway and steep approach accept only light aircraft (commonly Cessna 208 Caravans and Twin Otters); no jets land here. Daylight-only operations. Reached from SXM in about 10 minutes.
The principal long-haul gateway. International jets land here, then guests transfer to St. Barth by light aircraft (about 10 minutes) or helicopter. The main private-jet and FBO point for the region.
A secondary commuter gateway used by St Barth Commuter for the short hop to SBH.
Private terminals
- No dedicated private terminal exists at SBH given its size; arrivals are handled curbside with concierge meet-and-greet
- Private-jet and FBO handling is arranged at SXM (Princess Juliana) on the St. Maarten side, where operators such as Signature/Arrindell Aviation, Atlantic Aviation, and ExecuJet run FBO terminals
Meet & greet · gate escort
- St Barth R Way (gate meet-and-greet at SXM, escort to St Barth Commuter check-in, immigration assistance)
- Fivestars St Barth (arrival-gate meet, VIP fast track, luggage and aircraft-side assistance at SXM)
- Premium IV (arrival and departure assistance at both SXM and SBH, including customs and luggage handling)
First-class & arrivals lounges
- No first-class arrivals lounge at SBH; hotel and villa concierges handle arrivals directly
- Lounge access at SXM is via the airport's general lounge facilities and provider VIP services rather than a dedicated St. Barth lounge
Private transfers
- Private helicopter transfer SXM to SBH with West Indies Helicopters (also serves as a scenic flight)
- Light-aircraft transfer SXM/SFG to SBH with St Barth Commuter, Winair, and Tradewind Aviation
- Chauffeured car / mini-moke transfer on-island from SBH to hotels and villas, arranged by the property
- Private boat and yacht tenders for sea arrivals into Gustavia, including the ferry/charter route from St. Maarten
Private aviation
- Long-range private jets cannot land at SBH and use SXM (Princess Juliana), where FBO and ground-handling services receive private aircraft before a light-aircraft or helicopter transfer to St. Barth
- Tradewind Aviation operates private and semi-private light-aircraft charters into SBH, including from San Juan (SJU) and Antigua (ANU)
- St Barth Commuter, the island's own carrier, operates Cessna 208B Grand Caravans for scheduled and private charter flights into SBH
Immigration fast-track
VIP fast-track through immigration and security at SXM is offered by transfer specialists who meet guests at the arrival gate, expedite customs, and escort them to the St. Barth commuter check-in. There is no formal government fast-track lane; the service is provider-arranged.
Curator’s notes — pending verification
- Machine-drafted from research. Verify hotel operators, Michelin stars and any dated claims before publishing.
- St. Barthelemy is not part of the MICHELIN Guide France restaurant selection, so the island has no MICHELIN-starred restaurants; michelinStars is set to 0 for all dining entries. La Petite Plage's menu is associated with Michelin-starred chef Eric Frechon but the venue itself holds no star.
- Several leading hotels and many restaurants (e.g. Le Sereno, Bonito, Beefbar) close seasonally, typically from roughly late August/September to mid- or late October; confirm exact dates before travel. Le Sereno was noted as reopening on 29 October 2026.
- Hotel room/villa counts (e.g. Le Sereno ~39 suites, Le Toiny ~22 suites) are approximate and subject to renovation changes.
- Private aviation, FBO, and VIP fast-track arrangements at SXM are operated by third-party providers and SXM-side handlers; specific facility names and availability should be confirmed at time of booking.
- Cheval Blanc's MICHELIN Keys and French Palace distinction reflect recent listings (2026 Palace list; Three MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 Key selection) and should be reconfirmed against the current year's designation. As of June 2026, Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France is reported by the MICHELIN Guide as the only Three-Key hotel on a Caribbean island; one secondary aggregation referenced a Two-Key count, so reconfirm the live MICHELIN listing.
- The named SXM FBO operators (Signature/Arrindell Aviation, Atlantic Aviation, ExecuJet) are added based on third-party listings; confirm the specific handler at time of booking. SBH itself has no FBO.
- Could not directly load the MICHELIN Guide hotel page (HTTP 403) to read the Cheval Blanc key count verbatim; the Three-Key correction rests on multiple MICHELIN Guide editorial articles and AFAR, which consistently call it the only Three-Key Caribbean hotel. One secondary aggregation snippet referenced 'Two MICHELIN Keys' (likely stale), so the live listing should be reconfirmed.
- Le Barthelemy named restaurant 'Aux Amis' and Le Sereno's 'Al Mare' restaurant names were not independently re-verified in this pass; treat as provider-stated.
- Le Sereno reopening date of 29 October 2026 (in flags) and the seasonal closure windows for individual hotels were not independently verified; confirm exact dates before travel.
- Eres listed among Quai de la Republique maisons was not individually confirmed in this pass (the core houses Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Bulgari, Dior, Chopard, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and the Carat watch boutique were all confirmed present in Gustavia).
- 'L'Esprit Jean-Claude Dufour' and 'Tamarin' were not individually re-verified for current operating status; treat as provider-stated island favourites.
