- Best season
- Two distinct peak seasons. Late December through March delivers the deep, dry powder that built Jackson Hole Mountain Resort's reputation, with the National Elk Refuge and horse-drawn sleigh rides as a winter counterpoint; the final fortnight of the ski season (late March to early April) offers the best snow with the thinnest crowds. June through September is the green season: wildflower meadows in June, long days for Grand Teton and Yellowstone, and the elk rut and golden aspens through late September. May and October are quiet shoulder months, though the road north to Yellowstone closes seasonally and many ranch operations pause.
Jackson Hole is less a town than a 48-mile valley pinned between two mountain ranges, with the serrated Tetons rising abruptly from its western floor and the National Elk Refuge spreading across its northern edge. The name belongs to the valley; the town at its heart is simply Jackson, where four arches woven from shed elk antlers frame a square ringed by fine-art galleries. It is the rare American resort destination that has resisted the obvious — there are no chain high-rises, no manufactured village, and a deliberate, conservation-minded restraint that keeps the landscape, rather than the real estate, in the foreground.
The luxury here is bifurcated by season and geography. In winter, the gravity is at Teton Village, where Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s tram and famously dry powder draw serious skiers, and where the Four Seasons and the eight-suite Caldera House sit at the lift line. In the green months, attention shifts to the parks and the water: Grand Teton begins minutes from the runway, Yellowstone lies an hour north, and the Snake River threads the valley with blue-ribbon cutthroat fishing. Above it all, on the rim of East Gros Ventre Butte, Amangani — Aman’s first American property, reopening in summer 2026 after a thorough renovation — holds the finest view and the most contemplative posture in the valley.
Dining is honest rather than starry. There are no Michelin stars in Wyoming, but there is a real kitchen culture: a three-time James Beard nominee at the Snake River Grill, the valley’s only AAA Four Diamond room at Wild Sage, accomplished sushi at Kampai a thousand miles from the coast, and serious handmade pasta at Glorietta. The arrival is its own pleasure — Jackson Hole Airport is the only commercial field set inside a national park, and private guests pass through a single FBO into a landscape that begins the moment the cabin door opens.
The valley rewards a stay of five or six nights and a willingness to engage on its terms: early starts for wildlife, a guide who knows the water, and the discretion to let the scenery do the work. It suits the traveller who measures luxury in space, silence and access rather than in marble and crowds — and who understands that the best thing money buys in Jackson Hole is proximity to wilderness that has been carefully left alone.
Ideal for
Discerning skiers and powder purists · Wildlife and national-park travellers seeking privacy · Wellness and ranch retreaters · Multigenerational families
Where to stay
The Houses
Amangani
Aman · Ultra-premier resort · East Gros Ventre Butte, above the valley (about 20 minutes from the airport)
Aman's first American property, a 40-suite redwood-and-sandstone retreat perched on the edge of East Gros Ventre Butte with uninterrupted sightlines to the Teton range. The signature heated infinity pool runs the length of the butte's rim, and the restrained, light-filled suites favour the view over ornament. The resort reopens in summer 2026 following an extensive refurbishment that refreshes every suite, expands the spa and fitness facilities, and adds a presidential suite.
Why The valley's most cerebral address: privacy, proportion and the finest view in Jackson Hole, newly renovated for 2026.
Caldera House
Ultra-premier boutique hotel · Teton Village, slopeside at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort
An eight-suite, ski-in/ski-out hideaway that reads more like a private residence than a hotel. The four two-bedroom and four four-bedroom suites are oversized, with full kitchens, roaring fireplaces, floor-to-ceiling windows and private outdoor hot tubs. A members-style Alpine Club, the slope-facing Southcable Café and Chef Paulie O'Connor's Old Yellowstone Garage occupy the building.
Why The most exclusive bed in Teton Village — a residential scale and a buyout sensibility for those who prize discretion at the lift line.
Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole
Four Seasons · Premier ski resort · Teton Village, at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort
The valley's only true ski-in, ski-out luxury hotel, set at the foot of the tram in Teton Village. The 124 rooms and suites carry dark wood and natural stone, each with a gas fireplace and many with mountain-facing balconies. A full-service alpine spa, heated outdoor pool and the all-day Westbank Grill anchor the resort, with a ski concierge handling boots, lockers and lift access at the door.
Why Unmatched mountain access with Four Seasons consistency — the default choice for skiers who want zero friction between bed and chairlift.
The Sylvan Lodge at Snake River Sporting Club
Noble House Hotels & Resorts · Premier sporting-club lodge · Snake River Sporting Club, near Hoback, south of Jackson
Opened in 2025 on nearly 1,000 acres of private wilderness along the Snake River, this 38-room lodge grants guests temporary access to an otherwise members-only sporting club. Rooms and one-to-four-bedroom suites carry RH furnishings, heated stone bathroom floors and soaking tubs, and rooftop hot tubs survey the Bridger-Teton forest. A full spa and signature dining round out the stay.
Why A sporting estate disguised as a hotel — fly fishing, golf and total seclusion within reach of Jackson.
Hotel Jackson
Premier town-square boutique · On Jackson's historic Town Square, downtown
A family-owned boutique hotel set directly on the Town Square, walking distance to galleries, shops and the antler arches. Rooms and suites are warmly appointed, with a spa and the much-praised FIGS restaurant — a Lebanese-Mediterranean kitchen built on family recipes — on the ground floor. The position suits travellers who want town life rather than the mountain.
Why The most polished base in town itself, for those who prefer the gallery district to the gondola.
The Rusty Parrot Lodge & Spa
Premier boutique lodge · Downtown Jackson, a short walk from Town Square
Rebuilt and reopened after a 2019 fire, this intimate lodge returns Jackson's original luxury small hotel to the map. Rooms blend rustic Rocky Mountain materials with contemporary comfort, and the on-site Wild Sage — the only AAA Four Diamond restaurant in Jackson — serves a French-inflected, regionally sourced menu in a 32-seat room.
Why A reborn classic for travellers who value an owner's eye and the valley's most decorated dining room under one roof.

Helicopter access to thousands of vertical feet of untracked backcountry powder beyond the resort boundary, with certified guides, avalanche safety protocols and small groups. The terrain ranges from open bowls to gladed descents, matched to ability.

Horse-drawn sleigh ride through the National Elk Refuge
Seasonal (winter); private charters possibleWinter wildlife
A winter-only sleigh ride into the National Elk Refuge, where thousands of elk gather on the valley floor. The sleigh brings guests closer to the herd than any road, in deep quiet against the snowbound range.

Aerial tram and alpine hiking at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Curator’s notes — pending verification
- Amangani's summer-2026 reopening date is reported by the property and local press but no exact day was confirmed at time of writing; suite count (40) and the presidential-suite/spa expansion are from county approval reporting and may shift on reopening.
- No restaurant in Jackson Hole holds a Michelin star — the Michelin Guide does not cover Wyoming; all michelinStars values are 0 and reflect that absence, not a demotion. Reservation-difficulty ratings are editorial estimates, not verified booking data.
- Wild Sage's 'only AAA Four Diamond restaurant in Jackson' claim is drawn from the Rusty Parrot's own materials and should be reconfirmed against the current AAA list.
- The Sylvan Lodge opened mid-2025 with a grand-opening celebration reported for May 2026; review depth is still limited and service consistency is not yet established at the level of the older properties.
- Heli-skiing, sleigh rides and Yellowstone snow-coach tours are strictly seasonal and weather-dependent; availability and exact operators vary year to year and were not individually verified for the 2026 season.
- JAC's runway length and in-park location impose real operational limits (weather diversions, aircraft-type restrictions); operators should confirm performance for specific tail numbers.
- Coordinates are for the town of Jackson; the wider 'Jackson Hole' valley spans Teton Village, the parks and outlying ranches.
- Restaurant chef attributions (Jeff Drew, Chris Massad, Paulie O'Connor) are from secondary sources and current as reported; staffing can change.
